While travelling Italy searching for the perfect wedding venue, chances are you’ll happen upon a historic villa which boasts a warm, intimate little chapel inside that strikes you as the perfect spot to exchange your vows.
But is it possible for you to get married in that chapel? Unfortunately for the rest of us, only the family members of any given Villa’s owner can be wed in religious ceremonies in their chapel. You CAN absolutely opt for a ceremony in the chapel with either a religious or civil officiator to give a blessing…but the wedding won’t be legally valid. Many of our couples choose this option, making the marriage legal prior to the wedding day in a nearby town hall.
To be married in a legally binding Catholic ceremony, you must hold your ceremony in a consecrated church, not in a chapel.
In the end, even if you decide that little chapel doesn’t offer what you’re looking for, you’ll get that special feeling again when you DO find just the right place. And no matter where or how you are joined in marriage, a wedding is your chance to exchange a promise and celebrate your love!
