Lately, we here at Wedding With a View have been noticing a big increase in the number of ‘last minute’ requests for wedding planning. We certainly don’t mind; in fact, most of us work quite well under pressure. However, this recent phenomenon has gotten us thinking about the ideal amount of time to plan a wedding.
In our experience, it’s best to start the process of selecting a venue at around one year to 15 months before the chosen wedding date. Picking the perfect venue (or venues) for your ceremony, reception and accommodation is 80% of the hard work involved in planning your special day. We encourage our couples to make a ‘venue inspection’ visit to Italy whenever possible to help make the decision easier, but it can take a long time regardless. Another important factor in beginning to look at venues so far in advance is competition…Italy is a very popular place to be married, and the months of April through September get booked more quickly than you might imagine.
We’re guessing that the sad state of the economy is probably to blame for this year’s trend towards last-minute weddings. If you’re putting off beginning the planning process because you’re genuinely unsure of how your budget will change between now and six months from now, get in touch with us anyway! We’ll be happy to suggest some elegant-yet-budget-friendly venue options…if the stock market improves between now and the wedding, just think of all the awesome guest activities you’ll be able to plan or ‘wow factors’ you’ll add on to your special day!
